Sept. 20 Brunch Event Features a Discussion of Illinois Food's Present and Future

The Experimental Station non-profit plays a major role in the Chicago region's movement to build a better food system. It runs the 61st Street Farmers Market, the largest such market on Chicago's South Side; administers LinkUp Illinois, which funds markets' programs to double recipients' federal food assistance benefits; and is the lead agency in the Illinois Food System Roadmap Project.

Whether you are familiar with their work or new to Experimental Station, you have an opportunity to learn more at their Fall Fête: A Community Appreciation Brunch, to be held on Saturday, September 20 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the organization's headquarters at 6100 S. Blackstone Ave., adjacent to the 61st Street Farmers Market (which will be open that morning).

Attendees will enjoy a seasonal market brunch, a mimosa and spritz bar, and a discussion on the present and future of Illinois' food system featuring veteran Chicago food journalist Monica Eng and Jennifer Bamberg, agribusiness and Illinois food systems policy reporter for Investigate Midwest.

Guided tours of the Market, Link Up Illinois and Blackstone Bicycle Works — which provides bicycle repair skills to disadvantaged youths — will be provided.
