When the Next Farmers Market Week Expires, We'll Turn the Corner to October

A little different take on the lead photo. I took Amtrak from Chicago to Washington, D.C. en route to Farm Aid 2026, which is taking place in Virginia Beach, Virginia. I captured the above photo of the tiny station at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, site of abolitionist John Brown's famed (but failed) effort to capture the armory at that location (a prelude to the Civil War). I think it's quaint and lovely, so sharing it with you.

There will be a lot more photos to come.

Back to business. Local Food Forum has been urging readers to get thee to a farmers market as the clock ticks down on the 2026 outdoor season. So far, it has just been a heads up. Now, having already experienced the autumnal equinox, the stuff is getting real.

The Local Food Forum's Chicago region Farmers Market Tracker weekly update ends next Thursday, which is — brace yourself — the first day of October.

Maybe the urgency hasn't been there through September, as only a handful of the region's markets have called it a year, and there are still ample amounts of peak season crops to buy.

But over the coming weeks, markets will be closing in waves, and by the time Halloween gets here, there will be only a few outdoor markets holding out until just before Thanksgiving.

So please get out there, buy some delicious, healthy local food, and support our local farmers.

Open Friday, September 25—Thursday, October 1

It is hard to believe August is already coming to an end. Visiting a local farmers market seems like a great way to enjoy the final days of summer while picking up fresh seasonal goods. I especially like the community feeling these markets create, with local sellers and shoppers coming together. The last markets of the season can also be a good chance to find products that are not available year-round. Definitely a nice reminder to slow down and enjoy the season visit electrician in Riyadh .

Farmers markets are such a nice way to enjoy the last part of summer. Fresh seasonal produce, local products, and the chance to support small growers make these markets worth visiting. I like the idea of making the most of the remaining August weekends before the season changes. It is also a great opportunity to discover something new from local vendors. This sounds like a lovely way to spend a summer morning visit Digital design.
