Board Chair and Vice Chair Assume Temporary Roles Pending New Hire
The opening created earlier this month when Green City Market Executive Director Letisha "Tish" Steele completed her tenure will be filled on an interim basis by the leaders of the non-profit organization's Board of Directors: Mitch Weinstein and Alex Frantz.
Mitch, the Board chair, works as intellectual property manager for the law firm of Levenfeld Pearlstein. Alex, the Board vice chair, works as director of local and sustainable at Midwest Foods, a major food distributor based in Chicago. I have known and worked closely with both for some time and have full confidence that Green City is in good hands during this transitional period.
Green City Market announced today's news in an official statement distributed by email (copied in full below). The Market stated that their job search for their next executive director is under way.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT | AUGUST 26, 2026The Green City Market Board of Directors has appointed Board Chair Mitch Weinstein and Board Vice Chair Alex Frantz to serve as Co-Interim Executive Directors while the organization conducts a comprehensive search for its next Executive Director. Weinstein brings nearly a decade of leadership and institutional knowledge to the role, having previously served as Board Vice Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee before becoming Board Chair approximately three and a half years ago. Throughout his tenure, he has been closely involved in governance, strategic planning, food access initiatives and the development of the Green City Market Homestead. [Editor's Note: The Homestead is Green City Market's first indoor adjunct, which is currently under development near Chicago's Lincoln Square.] Frantz joined the Board in 2022 and has served as Vice Chair since 2024, following a term as Chair of the Governance Committee. She currently chairs the Market Stewardship Committee and works closely with Green City Market’s programs team on farmer and vendor relationships, community partnerships, culinary programming and activation of the Homestead. Outside of Green City Market, Frantz serves as Director of Local & Sustainability at Midwest Foods, where she leads initiatives focused on local sourcing, sustainable supply chains and partnerships that strengthen regional food economies. Together, Weinstein and Frantz will jointly oversee the organization and staff, with members of Green City Market’s active Executive Committee providing additional leadership across operations, development, programs and communications.
