Meet James Beard Award Winners Jason Hammel and Sarah Stegner

I'm confident that nearly all Local Food Forum readers are familiar with Green City Market, a trailblazer in Chicago's farmers market community since 1999. Many of you have visited there, and some, I'm sure, are regulars.
But have you ever taken an insider's tour of the market led by two James Beard Award winning chefs who are local farm-to-table pioneers? Well, now you can!
Next Wednesday (August 13) at 9 a.m., join us at Green City's flagship Lincoln Park location (1817 N. Clark) for a walkabout led by Chefs Jason Hammel (Lula Cafe) and Sarah Stegner (Prairie Grass Cafe). The event is a partnership of Local Food Forum; Naturally Chicago, the association for the region's natural products brands; and Green City Market.
You will have the opportunity to learn about the chefs' long histories with Green City Market and how they decide what to buy from the bounty of our region's peak growing season. They also will share about their own philanthropic pursuits, Sarah as co-founder of the Chicago Chefs Cook humanitarian non-profit and Jason as a co-founder of Pilot Light, a leading national food education non-profit.
You will also meet Letisha "Tish" Steele, the dynamic advocate for better food systems who became Green City Market's executive director in June. Tish came to Chicago from Denver where she headed Denver Food Rescue and co-chaired the Denver Sustainable Food Policy Council.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to Green City Market to help advance its programs to increase access to delicious, healthy local food for people enduring food insecurity. And, of course, we urge you to do some shopping while you're there and — what's our mantra? — support our local farmers!
