Beauty and Fun at Highly Productive Small Farm on Chicago's South Side

Readers of Local Food Forum may recognize Just Roots Urban Farm in the Bronzeville neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. I participated in their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program throughout the 2025 season, and used my every-other-week Saturday pickup to take photographs underscoring the beauty and productivity of this half-acre growing space adjacent to the Green Line El tracks.
I am happy to share the word about their Saint James Community Farm Kickoff, which coincides with the first farmstand of the year. The event — which will be held on Saturday, June 6 at 2936 S. Wabash Ave. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. — will also include:
Seedlings for giveaway
Farm tours
Farm fresh tastings paired with a cooking demo
Tree sapling giveaway
Art and horticulture projects
Spanish and Chinese interpretersÂ
Click the button below for free registration, then scroll for some of my photos that give an idea of what the farm looked like about the same time last year.
