Find Out by Pitching In at Garlic Escape Farm in Woodstock, Illinois

I am an admirer of Dr. Silvia Abel-Caines and her Garlic eScape Farm, in Woodstock, about 60 miles northwest of Chicago.
Silvia — a veterinarian who is a longtime ruminant nutritionist for the Organic Valley dairy products company — grows garlic and other plants on her farm. She was one of the first Chicago-region farmers selected by The Conservation Fund's Working Farms Fund, which buys land to help small farmers expand their operations under generous lease-to-buy options.
I visited the farm on exactly this day two years ago. It was almost unbearably hot but we still managed a quick tour of the fields, and I came away impressed. Click below to read the article.
This is why I'm sharing the following appeal for volunteers to help pick garlic on the farm, which popped up on the web recently:
Garlic Escape Farm in Woodstock, IL is looking for harvest volunteers!
The farm is open for volunteers 8 AM - 7 PM Sunday through Friday. No farm work on Saturdays
The soft soil and mulch make it easy to lift the plants from the ground without much effort - NO DIGGING required. Those who cannot be in the field can help clipping tops and roots in the shade under the trees.

Sounds like a fun day in country getting your hands in the dirt. And you can head into Woodstock, a charming city that — for you movie fans — was the filming location for the Bill Murray classic movie, Groundhog Day.
