Learn About Fermenting at Home and Meet an Inspirational Speaker

Our friends at Wild Onion Market Co-op promised to hold events frequently this year... and they are delivering, which two programs coming up in the first half of March.

The first, this Friday (March 6) from 6 to 8 p.m., is part of its Fermentor Fridays series. Here is how the organizers describe the session — and if you can't make it this week, you won't be in a pickle, because they plan to hold these events monthly :

Curious about the world of fermenting?

On March 6 from 6-8 p.m. we’re gathering novice and master fermenters alike to learn, support, and experience new and old ways of fermenting.

We’ll be at Wild Onion Market, a grocery co-op at 7007 N Clark in Chicago. Bring your ideas, your jars, and your latest fermentation projects to share! This is the first of what we hope will be a monthly event.

Space is limited so be sure to RSVP by Wednesday, March 4 to save your spot.

The next event, on Saturday, March 14 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., will feature a presentation by Sunny Akhigbe (photo above) of the A Boy and His Dream Foundation titled "Nourish for Life: A Community Nutrition Talk."

Here is the description provided by Wild Onion Market:

Sunny Akhigbe is the founder of A Boy and His Dream, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities for underserved youth through education, mentorship, nutrition, and community support, both locally in Chicago and internationally in Nigeria. He will lead this informative session focused on practical, accessible approaches to healthy eating.

Mr. Akhigbe, a native of Nigeria, now calls Chicago home. He is a business professional with an MBA from Purdue University and also a certified fitness coach. Complementing his philanthropic work, he is a powerful motivational speaker.

His talk will explore how to eat well within real-world constraints such as cost, access, and time. Topics include selecting wholesome foods on a budget and making everyday food choices that support long-term health for individuals and families.

This event is free and open to the public. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with Mr. Akhigbe, ask questions, and leave with actionable insights for better nourishment and well-being.

Wild Onion Market is located at 7007 N. Clark St. in Chicago's Rogers Park neighborhood.

These events follow on the heels of the February 28 event marking the end of Black History Month, at which several Black-owned businesses held product demonstrations.
