Non-Profit That Fights Food Insecurity Welcomed Community Members

Just Roots Chicago is a non-profit urban farming organization with a mission to fight food insecurity. They recently held two farm season kickoff events, the first on May 30 at their newer, larger farm in the south Chicago suburb of Sauk Village, and on June 6 at their flagship farm in Bronzeville on Chicago's South Side.
I dropped by the latter to take some photos of the event's farm tours, seedling and sapling giveaways, chef demos and children's art table. Here is how Just Roots described the event on Facebook, followed by more photos and a link to my earlier article, a photo essay that focuses on the farm's beautiful seasonal vegetation.
"We had such a wonderful time at our Farm Kick Off Events! Over 250 community members joined us for a beautiful day on our farms. We distributed hundreds of seedlings and many folks went home with enough plants to fill their entire garden or to share with their neighbors. Plus many people signed up to volunteer, attend a free workshop, and even become a CSA member!
"We look forward to another great season, and can't wait to see everyone at another event or activity this year!"
