The Market Manager is a key role responsible for the successful launch, management, and long-term sustainability of a new 360 square foot community market at the Cultivate Collective hub. This individual will be integral in overseeing day-to-day operations, ensuring regulatory compliance (including setting up and accounting for Federal benefits such as SNAP), documenting operational procedures, and supporting the market's financial sustainability.
Additionally, this role will engage with the community, manage vendor relationships, and drive sales through strategic marketing and outreach efforts, with a strong focus on promoting access to fresh, locally procured foods and enhancing community health and wellness. The Market Manager will play a pivotal role in offering nutritious, locally sourced options that address food insecurity and support sustainable, healthy lifestyles for all community members.
Baseline requirements include at least three years of experience in grocery, retail or farmers markets at a manager level; experience tracking and compliance in federal programs such as SNAP; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; and eligible to work with children in a K-12 public school setting

Niman Ranch to Show Its Chops in Collab with Chef Brian Jupiter at His Frontier Restaurant

Brian Jupiter, one of Chicago's star chefs, is teaming with Niman Ranch and Mariano's on a lamb-centric dinner. The sumptuous-sounding event with take place on Thursday, February 6, starting at 7 p.m., at Chef Brian's Frontier restaurant in the West Town neighborhood (1072 North Milwaukee Avenue).
Niman Ranch gets its name from founder Bill Niman, a pioneer since the 1970s is preserving the tradition of humane and sustainable raising of pasture-raised livestock. Owned since 2015 by Perdue Farms, the company has maintained its approach of contracting with family farms that raise their animals with its values.

Frontier knows the best-tasting lamb starts at the ranch – with ranchers who raise animals traditionally, humanely, and sustainably. Join us for an evening of Chef Jup's masterfully crafted Niman Ranch lamb dishes paired with top global wines curated by Mariano's. To fully complete the farm-to-table dining experience a local rancher and farmer will be in attendance. Guests will leave 3 to-go packaged Niman Ranch Loin Lamb Chops, compliments of the American Lamb Board, and a custom recipe from Chef Jup.

Join us to hear from Dr. Teresa Steckler, who will discuss livestock farming and how to identify and prepare for emerging diseases and pests. Dr. Stecklers’s research contributes to the understanding of the relationship between tick-borne diseases impacting humans (agricultural workers) and livestock (cattle and small ruminants), and the types of plants found in their shared environment (invasive plant species).
