Farmers Market Reporter Shows Why You Should Go... But Don't Drive Angry!

Woodstock is a lovely little city of about 26,000 in far north-central Illinois. The seat of McHenry County, is it located in a region with a lot of small farms and sustainable agriculture. So it's not surprising that you should shop their Tuesday and Saturday outdoor farmer markets — or use that as an excuse for a field trip.
Another reason to go is that Woodstock is home to one of Illinois' most famous movie locations. The city filled in for Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania for the filming of the beloved comedy Groundhog Day, which stars Bill Murray. The farmers market rings Woodstock Square, where much of the movie takes place, and fans will quickly recognize the gazebo that is in the background of the photo above.
That photo was taken by Ed Kugler, manager of the Ravinia Farmers Market in north suburban Highland Park and man about the region's farmers market scene. Local Food Forum is carrying his new feature, Farmers Market Reporter, which is greatly helping Local Food Forum expand its farmers market coverage beyond my one-man-band reach.

Here's the man himself in a "usie" with Woodstock Market Manager Holly Adkins.
Enjoy the photos of one of my favorite markets in the region. Woodstock is one of our super-sized markets, but as you'll see, there's more than enough variety to make it a local food one-stop shop. All photos by Ed.
