Eco-friendly Patagonia teams with Chicago's Half Acre on a Kernza Brew
Kernza®️ is an artisan grain trademarked by The Land Institute, an non-profit based in Kansas. Interest in Kernza has been rising because of its reputation as a tasty grain that also has benefits to the environment and regenerative farming.
These qualities drew the attention of Patagonia Provisions, the food division of the eco-friendly Patagonia clothing company. They have partnered with Half Acre Beer Co., a pillar of Chicago's craft brewing community, on a Kernza Lager — and are holding an event next Wednesday evening (July 24) at the Patagonia store in Chicago's Fulton Market District (1115 West Fulton Market St.) to discuss the project.
Also participating is Just Roots, a non-profit farming organization that uses regenerative practices to grow fresh, organic, culturally affirming food. To enhance food access, half of the food Just Roots grows is sold on a sliding scale, while the other half is donated to food pantries, mutual aid, and senior and public housing facilities.
According to the event page, there will be a happy hour featuring Kernza Lager that will start at 5:30 p.m. and feature live music. The Beer Talk begins promptly at 7:15 p.m., with the history of Half Acre, the brewing process for the Kernza lager, and more.
If you want to learn more about Kernza®️, and/or you want to learn more about regenerative agriculture and mission-driven farming, you should not miss this event. If you're just in it for the beer, that's okay too.
