Helping Neighbors Get Great Sweet Corn for a Great Price

I stocked up last Thursday (July 30) at Daley Plaza Farmers Market in Chicago's Loop, so I took a rare Saturday farmers market break. Instead, I placed yet another order with Three Sisters Garden (Kankakee, Illinois) for a home delivery of slicing tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, summer squash, and sweet corn. Lots and lots of Tracey Vowell's legendary sweet corn.

This corn has been a standby since not long after we moved to Chicago. This is my third or fourth order this year, and it has been great. Every ear so far has been perfectly picked, with full kernels from end to end, and delicious.

My enthusiasm for summer's golden vegetable has earned me a role as a "corn mule" among friends in our high-rise apartment building. The corn is cheaper by the dozen but none of us is apt to require a dozen ears in a week. So I take orders and purchase a dozen or two, depending on how many folks buy in.
