Non-Profit Educational Farm is Just North of Chicago in Skokie

ree

Apologies for the late notice, but... I just learned of a great event taking place Saturday (4 p.m. to 8 p.m.) at The Talking Farm, located just north of the Chicago line in Skokie.

I've been acquainted with The Talking Farm — a non-profit urban farm with an educational mission — for many years, and it's always worth a visit... but especially so when there's a great Raise the Barn! bash going on.

Here's how the organizers describe it:

Join us for Raise the Barn!, a special fall fest that supports urban agriculture while celebrating the harvest season. This year, we are partnering with Third Coast Soif* to make this an Off Soif event featuring earth-friendly natural wines and ciders, chef collaborations, live music, fire pits, and s’mores — all set on our idyllic 2.5-acre urban farm in Skokie (3669 Howard St., 2 blocks west of Kedzie). This event features wine/cider/beer and chef collaborations with All Together Now!, Tripping Billy, Virtue Cider, middle brow, Chef Tom Carlin’s Burl in Evanston, Trogo Kitchen & Market, and many, many more! Think of our fest as a post-game, pre-game, or a destination for the night!

Raise the Barn! is a zero-waste event thanks to Collective Resource Compost Cooperative, the North Shore's preeminent compost and wast reduction company!

Proceeds from the event benefit The Talking Farm, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit. Non-alcoholic, vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available.

* Third Coast Soif is a Chicago fair celebrating minimal intervention wines, ciders and other beverages grown and made naturally (and the people who thirst for them). Their next full event is scheduled for March 22, 2026.

I'll be there... Don't miss out on what is going to be a fun evening on the farm.
