Speakers Will Represent Food + Art + Bikes

Experimental Station is a non-profit that is located near the border of the Woodlawn and Hyde Park neighborhoods on Chicago's South Side. It is best known to local food advocates for its 61st Street Farmers Market and its administration of Illinois Link Up, which helps fund programs at farmers markets and other retailers that double the value of food assistance benefits.

Experimental Station also has events on local arts and culture, and its Blackstone Bicycle Works — celebrating its 20th anniversary — provides training for underprivileged local youths in bicycle repair and maintenance.

The organization's range of interests is reflected in the name of its fundraising event to be held on Thursday, April 30 (6 p.m. to 9 p.m) at its 6100 S. Blackstone Ave. home. It's called FAB Night with FAB standing for Food + Art + Bikes.

According to Experimental Station:

"Join us for FAB Night, a special fundraiser supporting the work of Experimental Station. Together, we’ll celebrate our impact and the programs that strengthen our community—all while enjoying a curated three-course spread by award winning chef Constance Simms-Kincaid.

Throughout the evening, you’ll hear from food experts, artists, and bicycling advocates as they share insights and stories about Food, Art, and Bikes."

Speakers include two well-known figures in the Chicago region's local food community:

  • Greg Wade, head baker and Managing Partner at Publican Quality Bread, who won the 2019 James Beard Award for the nation's best baker.

  • Ben Jaffe, co-owner of Earthlore Farm — a small family farm in downstate Beaverville, IL — and Chapter Coordinator for the Northern Illinois Young Farmers Coalition.
