Those With 5+ Years of Grocery Experience Invited to Apply by February 13

Star Farm Chicago is a dynamic urban farming non-profit that works to bring more jobs, hope and opportunity — and increased local food access — to the under-resourced Back of the Yards community on the city's South Side.

One of the organization's biggest achievements last year was the long-awaited opening of its Fresh Market grocery store, located at 5256 S. Ashland, not far from its farming operations. And now, Star Farm is seeking to hire an experienced manager to lead the startup market to success.

According to the organization, you should apply by February 13 if you have:

  • 5+ years of grocery experience (management preferred)

  • Strong leadership and organizational skills

  • Comfort with POS systems, basic computer tasks, and social media

  • A commitment to sustainability and food justice

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Key responsibilities of the position:

  • Lead daily Fresh Market and CSA operations, including staff supervision and service excellence.

  • Manage inventory, procurement, merchandising, and facility operations.

  • Oversee vendors, sales performance, and key operational metrics.

  • Develop and execute marketing, outreach, and social media strategies.

  • Build strong relationships with customers, CSA members, and community partners.
