One of region's oldest farmers markets doubles pleasure for suburban shoppers

Ravinia Farmers Market has been a fixture in the south end of the north Chicago suburb of Highland Park since 1978. Last year, they branched out by adding a Saturday winter market in the city's downtown.

It went so well that they are doubling the pleasure of winter local food fans by adding a Friday market to the Saturday market.

The Saturday session will be located at Wayfarer Theater, 1850 Second St., in Highland Park, the location that Ravinia Farmers Market established last winter season. This market opens first, on January 10, and runs through April 25.

The new second location will be at Braeside Market, 55 St. John's Ave., near the famed Ravinia summer music venue. This market will be held on Fridays from January 16 to April 24.

Both markets will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on their designated days.

The organizers describe the venture as "an exciting new winter farmers market series bringing local growers, bakers and artisan makers under one cozy roof."
