Co-op's Week-Long Fest Includes Louisiana Cuisine and In-Store Party

Wild Onion Market, one of the newest of the Chicago region's food cooperatives, is located in the Rogers Park neighborhood near the north edge of the city of Chicago. Rogers Park is one of the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods in Chicago (and maybe anywhere), and the market's managers are planning a series of events this year to celebrate that diversity.
You have a chance to celebrate the uniquely diverse cultures of New Orleans at Wild Onion Market's Mardi Grass Week celebration. The week-long event begins on Wednesday (February 11), continues through an in-store party on Sunday (February 15), and wraps up on "Fat Tuesday" on February 17. The market is located at 7007 N. Clark St.
And that's not all for February. A Black History Month event on Saturday, February 28 will feature local Black-owned businesses and Wild Onion Market vendors.

Wild Onion Market set to celebrate Mardi Gras week
From Feb. 11-17, the community-owned grocery store will feature decorations, free Publican King Cake, and a special New Orleans inspired menu by 4 Suns Kitchen.
ROGERS PARK – Wild Onion is set to host a week-long Mardi Gras celebration from this Wednesday, February 11th through Tuesday, February 17th. The celebration will be anchored by a special in-store party on Sunday the 15th from 12-3pm.
“It will be a week of jubilation featuring delicious Creole style meals straight out of New Orleans,” says Chef Byron Glapion of 4 Suns Kitchen.
Chef Byron grew up in New Orleans and looks forward to sharing his soulful flavors with Wild Onion customers. The special menu will include Andouille Sausage and Chicken Gumbo, a Creole-style vegan roasted vegetable and tofu dish, and Red Beans and Rice with Turkey Sausage.
The special in-store party on Sunday, February 15th will include free samples of King Cake from Publican Quality Bread as well as traditional brass band music and plenty of decorations. Customers are encouraged to wear Mardi Gras masks too.
Wild Onion Market is a community-owned grocery store located at 7007 N. Clark Street in Chicago and is open to everyone. Patrons do not need to be members to shop at the store.
In January of this year, Wild Onion teamed up with 4 Suns Kitchen, an Evanston-based business, to offer smoothies, salads, soups, sandwiches, and warm meals out of their deli space. 4 Suns is owned by Chef Byron and partner Gabi Walker, who brings her Haitian American background and love for nutrition to their business.
4 Suns Kitchen is open Tuesday through Sunday from 11am-7pm in the deli space of Wild Onion Market. Wild Onion is open every day from 8am-9pm.
A Black History Month event is coming up at Wild Onion Market later in the month. On Sunday, Feb. 28, from 2-5 p.m., the co-op will be honoring the month by bringing together some of its favorite Black owned local businesses and Wild Onion Market vendors to feature at the store.
