Good Grain Meets Good Spirits at Aug. 27 Downstate IL Farm Event

Leading Promoters of Sustainable Grain to Gather at Cow Creek Farm in Paxton

The rise of organic and regenerative grain production in the Midwest is one of the most important developments toward a better food system that I've witnessed since becoming a full-time Good Food advocate. I am was also an early adopter of the craft spirits movement a couple of decades ago.

So you can bet that I'm looking forward to attend a special event at Cow Creek Farm and its Silver Tree Beer and Spirits in the east-central city of Paxton on Wednesday, August 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Five leading sustainable agriculture organizations — OGRAIN, Artisan Grain Collaborative, The Land Connection, IDEA Farm Network, and Rodale Institute — are collaborating on a program titled Farmer-Distiller Grain Connections. As described by the organizers:

Join OGRAIN, Artisan Grain Collaborative, The Land Connection, IDEA Farm Network and Rodale Institute for this unique field day tailored for both farmers and distillers to learn in the field and at the distillery.

Dallas and Will Glazik will lead us as we tour organic fields and discuss proper food-grade grain handling at Cow Creek Organic Farm. We’ll transition to Silver Tree Spirits for lunch featuring a farmer & distiller panel followed by organic buyer/seller networking time. We’ll wrap up the day with a distillery tour, grain quality talk, and optional off-flavor tasting.

Organic Buyer/Seller Mixer at Silver Tree Spirits

2:45 pm – 4:30 pm: Distillery Tour, Off-Flavor Tasting, & Grain Quality Discussion at Silver Tree Spirits

4:30 pm – 6:00 pm: Optional Social Time
