Get Pilot Light's 11/1 Annual Gala on Your Calendar

The Feed Your Mind Fundraiser Celebrates a Leading Food Education Non-Profit

I am a big fan of Pilot Light, the Chicago-based food education non-profit, with which I've been professionally acquainted for about a decade.

That's why I'm pleased to share the breaking news that Pilot Light has scheduled its annual fundraising gala, and to urge you to consider attending.

The 2024 Feed Your Mind Gala will take place on Friday, November 1 at Venue West, 221 N. Paulina St. in Chicago. Cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a seated dinner, live auction, and an informational program from the Pilot Light team.

Festivities will include chef presentations, stories from Pilot Light classrooms, and a professional auctioneer conducting a thrilling live auction packed with exclusive travel adventures, food & wine tastings, and other one-of-a-kind experiences (some including one-on-one interactions with our celebrity chefs).

Past travel destinations have included Breckenridge, Iceland, Italy, Oregon's Willamette Valley, and Switzerland. An additional silent auction and luxury raffle items will round out the festivities.

Pilot Light’s Founding Chefs — Matthias Merges, Paul Kahan, Justin Large, and Jason Hammel — curate a wonderful list of guest chefs to create a beautiful five-course dinner for our guests.

The exciting guest chef lineup for this year is Rodolfo Cuadros (Amaru & Bloom Plant Based Kitchen), Joe Frillman and Leigh Omilinsky (Daisies), Tim Flores and Genie Kwon (Kasama), Dominique Leach (Lexington Betty Smokehouse), James Martin (Bocadillo Market), Oliver Poilevey (Obelix & Le Bouchon), Sarah Stegner (Prairie Grass Cafe), and Jonathan Zaragoza (Birrieria Zaragoza).

No other event offers the same chance to share the room with – and eat the food of – multiple James Beard Foundation Award winners, nominees and other rising chef stars, while also investing in the future of Food Education. The November 1 event will be a one-of-a-kind celebration of the power of food.

Pilot Light was founded in 2010 by local chefs Jason Hammel, Paul Kahan, Justin Large and Matthias Merges. And under the leadership of Executive Director Alexandra DeSorbo-Quinn since 2014, Pilot Light has grown from integrating food education into the lesson plans at a single Chicago public school to providing training and materials in schools across Chicago and in two dozen school districts across the nation.

The organization has also made its food education standards, lesson plans and videos widely available through its Food Education Center.
