Explore Waukegan's Urban Farm Center at Its October 17 Opening
College of Lake County Will Celebrate Expansion of Its Waukegan Campus
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the indoor Urban Farm Center that has been under construction at the College of Lake County's Waukegan, Illinois campus. Now you will be able to view this amazing new facility yourself at their Grand Opening celebration at Saturday, October 17 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The Center is located at 34 N. Sheridan Rd. in downtown Waukegan. The team that conceived and managed the project is led by Eliza Fournier, the college's urban farm director, and is based strongly on her work establishing Chicago's The Farm on Ogden during her previous 20-year tenure as program director of the Chicago Botanic Garden's Windy City Harvest urban agriculture division.

As described on the Urban Farm Center page on the College of Lake County website, the 24,000-square-foot facility will support all aspects of the local food system from farm to table, including:
Training & educational programs for growers
Innovative growing systems that produce diverse crops year round
Essential infrastructure to process, store and sell locally grown and produced provisions
