And just like that, today is Halloween, tomorrow is November, the outdoor farmers market schedule is downsized, and after this week it gets smaller.
A handful of our heritage markets will brave the November weather until just before Thanksgiving. And... 61st Street Farmers Market, on the border of the Woodlawn and Hyde Park neighborhoods, is jumping the line by kicking off the region's first indoor farmers market this Saturday.
Just so you know, I'll be compiling and publishing a guide to sourcing local food in our home Chicago region as the curtain falls on the outdoor season. This will include not only indoor farmers markets, but co-ops and home delivery options. Those local squash, root vegetables and apples are just as delicious as the peak season stuff.
