This Week's Market Sked: Popular Logan Square Market Opens Sunday

Uptown Market's Debut is Another Highlight of Week's Chicago-Area Newbies

The most significant detail of this week's schedule of Chicago region farmers market is that your ability to find an open outdoor market is getting close to an everyday thing.

With multiple openings on Tuesday and Wednesday, the only days that the region is currently market-less are Monday and Friday... and those blanks will be filled as we move toward the big wave of June openings.

We love all the markets, but here are three highlights:

Green City Market, the pacesetter of the region's farmers market community since its 1999 opening, is debuting its Wednesday morning market at its Lincoln Park flagship location. While its Saturday session there is a destination market with thousands of visitors, the Wednesday market has a more laidback neighborhood feel (which, I admit, is what I prefer).

As of Wednesday, all three Green City locations, including its Saturday satellite market in Chicago's West Loop neighborhood, will have opened for the season.

Speaking of neighborhood markets... Uptown Farmers Market, one of the city's prettiest markets, has its season opener later on Wednesday. The Uptown market is a project of the folks who lead the Chicago Market food co-op project, which is under development a few blocks away.

And on Sunday, the biggest farmers market community event of the week: the season opener for Logan Square Farmers Market, one of Chicago's most popular. If throngs of shoppers and a street festival atmosphere are your things, this market is for you.
