With More Than 100 Chefs/Restaurants, This Outdoor Event Dazzles

Green City Market's Chef BBQ is the biggest annual fundraiser for the influential farmers market non-profit — and the year's most anticipated outdoor local-focused culinary event. It's coming right up on the evening of Thursday, September 4 at Green City Market's flagship location in Lincoln Park, so we're sharing this reminder.

Chef BBQ features small plates of food creations from dozens of leading Chicago region restaurants, craft beer and spirits, wine, and non-alcoholic beverages. And if you're vegan or vegeterian, don't be put off by the BBQ part; you'll be able to eat your fill with the delicious non-meat dishes at the event.

It will also be an exceedingly rare opportunity for you to meet some of the region's top chefs, some of whom will be working the line to serve up your portion.

As the Market puts it:

Green City Market’s beloved Chef BBQ returns to Lincoln Park on Thursday, September 4 from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. CT, bringing together over 100 of Chicago’s most celebrated chefs, restaurants, brewers, and mixologists for an unforgettable evening. Unlike any other food festival in Chicago, every chef participating in Chef BBQ sources sustainably-grown ingredients directly from Green City Market’s local farmers and vendors — making it the most hyperlocal culinary event of the year.

This one-of-a-kind food festival fuels Green City Market’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit mission to secure the future of food by supporting sustainable farmers, educating our community, and expanding access to locally-grown food. All proceeds directly support this work. With the focus of this event on spotlighting fresh, peak season flavors, there will be plenty more than BBQ bites. With many vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options, there will be plenty for everyone to enjoy.

Induglent, yes, but also virtuous. Green City Market is a non-profit organization that, since its founding in 1999, has stimulated the massive growth in the farmers market community while setting standards, accepted by most markets, for sourcing locally and sustainably.

Chef BBQ not only helps support Green City's operations, but also its mission to expand local food access by tripling the value of government food assistance benefits, support local farmers, and provide food education for young and old.
