Does the idea of spending a couple of hours this Sunday (July 27) immersed in beautiful and powerful art while indulging in expertly curated mezcals and tequilas and delicious food? If the answer is yes, then the National Museum of Mexican Art is the place to be for its annual Copitas de Sol (Cups of the Sun) fundraiser.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the non-profit museum, located at 1852 West 19th Street on Chicago's South Side.

The event is a years-long partnership between the museum and Lou Bank, a Chicago resident and one of the nation's leading experts on mezcal and tequila.

Lou created and leads the non-profit organization S.A.C.R.E.D. (Saving Agave for Culture, Recreation, Education and Development), which helps improve lives in the rural Mexican communities where heritage agave spirits are made.

He is the host of Agave Road Trip, a weekly podcast that helps bartenders better understand agave, agave spirits, and rural Mexico. In 2018, Lou was honored with the Golden Spirit Award from Tales of the Cocktail for his presentation "So You Think You Know Mezcal...?”

There are two sessions on Sunday, though the second one, titled "Agave Vibes" is sold out (it's likely not a coincidence that it includes a DJ and dancing).

But if you are an agave spirits fan, you don't want to miss "Agave Tales," the segment that runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. It will feature conversations with brand ambassadors, restaurateurs and bartenders, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition Nuestras Historias: Stories of Mexican Identity from the Permanent Collection.

Here are the taste sensations that guests will enjoy:

Agave spirit partnersCambio Tequila, Creador Agave Spirits, Don Julio Tequila, Guanamé Wine, Los Valores Tequila, Paquera Mezcal, Prieto y Prieta Whiskey, Siete Pozos Tuxca, Weber Ranch Vodka

Restaurant partners: 5 Rabanitos, Cruz Blanca Taqueria, Dark Matter Tacos, Ghost Donkey, Istmo Oaxacan Cuisine, Mercadito, Moti, MUCHO Museum of Chocolate (CDMX), Piñatta Taqueria, Sleep Walk Chocolate, Santa Masa, Solazo

Craft beer partners: Cervecería Monopolio, Soundgrowler Brewing, and Cruz Blanca Brewery

And the art? Check out the gorgeous piece above — that is made out of thousands of glass beads.
