For Time Being, Corn and Tomatoes Coexist with Pumpkins and Winter Squash

The Farm Aid Festival that I attended in Minneapolis last weekend was also my summer swan song. We reached the autumn equinox on Monday (September 22), and today (September 24) I made went to Green City Market for my first fall visit of this year.
We're still in the transitional season between summer and fall crops, but the former are in fade mode. Melons appear to be done, and some varieties of tree fruit have had their day. Sweet corn, summer squash and tomatoes are hanging in (but not for long). At the same time, we are enjoying an abundance of red bell peppers, winter squash, small pumpkins, brussels sprouts and apples.
I decided that the best way to display what's in season during this last full week of September is with pictures rather than words. Nichols Farm and Orchard (Marengo, Illinois) is the region's largest diversified produce farm, and I call it the farmers market one-stop-shop. So I took photos of all their displays, including the two at the top of the article.
