Documentary Seeks to Clarify What Organic Is and How It Differs from Conventional

The Experimental Station non-profit is hosting a free premiere screening of Organic Rising, an important documentary that seeks to clarify what organic means and why it is better for people and the planet than conventional farming.
The Chicago event takes place on Thursday, October 23, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Experimental Station's headquarters, 6100 S. Blackstone Ave., located just south of the University of Chicago campus. The building is immediately adjacent to the site of the organization's 61st Street Farmers Market.
Director Anthony Suau, a Pulitzer Prize and Emmy Award winner, will follow the screening by discussing the film's topics with Allison Walent of Midwest Organic Services Association (MOSA) and Ezra Lee of Growing Home, the social mission-driven urban farming non-profit based in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood.
According to the Organic Rising website:
Demystifying Organic Agriculture
Organic Rising pulls back the curtain on the American food system, revealing the urgent stakes behind how our food is grown—conventional vs. organic—and the immediate consequences on our health and environment. The documentary deconstructs the often-confusing USDA organic label and farming practices, empowering consumers to navigate food choices with confidence. More than informative, the film allows viewers to reconsider their role in shaping a food system that is ethical and sustainable.
