Abundance Setting, The Evolved Network, Green City Market, Chicago Chefs Cook
The Abundance Setting is the Chicago-based non-profit that advocates fairness and opportunities for mothers working in the culinary industry. And its fundraising feast, titled "It Takes a Village," is coming up fast on Monday (October 7) at eden restaurant, located in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood at 2734 W. Roscoe St.
The event runs from 6:30-9:30 p.m. with a VIP Hour starting at 5:30. The Lactation Network is sponsoring the event.
Despite major societal shifts involving men's roles in parenting, women remain the primary child caregivers in most cases. Many talented women who work in restaurants, which often require working long hours, nights and weekends, find it challenging to balance their family and career responsibilities.
The Abundance Setting, led by women chefs, was created to focus on this issue and promote accommodations that restaurants can make to enable women with children to pursue their career goals.
Here are the details about the event from the organization:

The Evolved Network is a visionary Chicago non-profit that works to improve the lives of underprivileged youths through cooking lessons, food education and farm-to-table experiences. Chef/Founder Sebastian White has held a series of sumptuous dinner collaborations over the past couple of years with leaders in the Chicago culinary community to raise money and recruit new supporters for his mission.
So don't miss out on The Evolved Network's Eat and Evolve fundraiser — its biggest annual event — which will also be held at eden restaurant on Monday, October 21. The lineup of leading chefs (as seen in the above graphic) again underscores both the strong support Sebastian receives and the general collaborative nature of the region's culinary community.
As described on The Evolved Network's website...
Join us as we come together to learn about The Evolved Network "Way", which begins with companionship and respect of how our kids move through the world in ways that matter to them. Companioning, in The Evolved Network “Way”, means to “be with” someone with respect and care, taking with equal concern where they came from, where they are, and where they are going. Your support enables us to show our kids from our city’s most underserved communities see that their possibilities outweigh their limitations and that through food we can heal, care and love one another, while fighting against social structures that reinforce the opposite.
Eat and Evolve begins with a VIP reception from 5:00 to 5:45 p.m. with the main event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Green City Market, Chicago's farmers market leader, has announced that it is presenting the latest in its Sustainable Supper Series, which raises money for the non-profit's multiple missions. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 29 at Longman & Eagle restaurant in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood (2657 N. Kedzie Ave.).
Here are the details from GCM:
We're thrilled to announce that Green City Market will be hosting the third and final Sustainable Supper Series with Executive Chef Brian Motyka and the crew at Longman and Eagle on Tuesday, October 29!
The dinner will focus on the theme, "Edible Education -- Nourishing Future Generations," highlighting the importance of educating the next generation about their local food system and supporting local, sustainable farmers and growers.
GCM's Sustainable Supper Series aims to bridge the gap between consumer and producer by creating a space for Chicagoans to connect directly with local farmers and restaurants, and share that knowledge with the larger community.
All proceeds from October's dinner go towards Green City Market’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit mission to secure the future of food by deepening support for sustainable farmers, educating our community, and expanding access to locally grown food.
Dinner will include a three-course, family-style meal (with ingredients sourced from our very own GCM farmers), a complimentary non-alcoholic cocktail sponsored by Ritual Zero Proof, and a cash bar.
The event will run from 6:00 P.M - 9:00 P.M, with dinner beginning at 6:20 P.M.

And a reminder of an important event, coming right up this Sunday (October 6) that Local Food Forum reported out on Monday.
The devastation wrought across the American South by the monster Hurricane Helene is just horrifying. The property damage and displacement is immense, and the final death toll may rank among the worst in the nation's hurricane history.
Chicago Chefs Cook, the non-profit philanthropic and humanitarian arm of the city's generous culinary community, is stepping up with a BBQ and treats fundraising raising event this coming Sunday to provide relief to Florida victims of Hurricane Helene.
The event will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chicago Q, located at 1160 N. Dearborn St., just north of the city's downtown area. Click the button below to buy tickets or donate to help out.
The event is called Chicago Chefs Cook for Jasper and Florida: A Benefit with Chef Art Smith. Art, a legendary Chicago chef, hails from Jasper, Florida, which was hit hard by the hurricane. As described by the organizers:
Chef Art Smith has teamed up with the award-winning Chicago Chefs Cook to raise money for those impacted by Hurricane Helene, including those living in Chef Art’s hometown of Jasper, Florida. Over 25% of Jasper residents live below the poverty line, and their homes and communities have been decimated by the recent storm and the substantial flooding it has caused. Most in the city are without power and have limited access to water.
A portion of the net proceeds from this event will benefit World Central Kitchen, an organization on the ground providing aid for those in need across Florida, and a local charity in Jasper selected by Chef Art.
Please join us at Chicago Q on Sunday, October 6, 2024, from 5:00pm-8:00pm for an unforgettable night of BBQ and treats from chefs across Chicago. Enjoy small bites and an open bar, and help support a cause near and dear to our chef community.
Space is limited, so we suggest you purchase tickets in advance. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door for purchase with Tap to Pay or cash only. Donations are also welcome should you be unable to attend.
100% of donations are tax-deductible, and $50 of each pre-event ticket and $75 of each at-the-door ticket is tax-deductible.
