Fundraiser Honors Longtime Executive Director Katherine Bissell Cordova
Katherine Bissell Cordova, who has devoted her professional life to a range of humanitarian and progressive causes, is marking her 10th anniversary as executive director of the Chicago Fair Trade non-profit.
This also coincides with her 60th birthday, and the organization is throwing a fundraising celebration this Sunday (July 14) at the Chicago Fair Trade Museum and Store at 4704 N. Broadway in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood.
Here are the details from Chicago Fair Trade:
"Our fearless CFT leader, devoted friend, and legendary community organizer and cook, Katherine Bissell Cordova, turns 60 this July and is celebrating 10 years at Chicago Fair Trade!
"This special woman has brought so many wonderful events to our community; it’s time to host one for her! Our goal is to fundraise $10,000 in honor of Katherine’s 10 years at CFT.
"Through Katherine’s dynamic leadership, CFT started:
Hosting annual Holiday Pop Up Shops,
Created the world’s first Fair Trade museum,
Started ongoing teen education programs,
Facilitated more clothing swaps than you can count, and
Has exponentially grown the business member network!
"For those who don’t know, Chicago Fair Trade is the leading voice of the fair trade movement in the U.S., and Katherine has mentored leaders from other cities and organizations. Fair traders in the U.S. look to Chicago Fair Trade as a source of inspiration, and we owe much of that to Katherine’s 10 years of service in creating a more just world. Let’s secure additional funds to continue this incredible momentum!
"Of course, we’ll have food, drinks, music, and excellent vibes. Tickets are $60 (in honor .of her 60 years)."
This celebration is also posted in Local Food Forum's new events calendar.
