Black Farmers Index Highlights Producers Across the United States

I make every effort to keep up with all of the great organizations that are working individually and collectively to build a better food system. Quite often, I learn of a new one that I think is very much worth sharing.
This morning, a friend (thank you, Amber) shared a link to Black Farmers Index. It describes itself as "the largest, FREE, most comprehensive directory of Black Farmers, which connects you to traditional and non-traditional growers."
While February is Black History Month, that's not the reason I'm sharing, because I believe strongly that we need to buy from and support small farmers, in all their glorious diversity, all year long. (Yes, many of us DO believe that diversity, equity and inclusion are fundamental to the success of American society.)
Their listings include many Black-owned farms in the Chicago foodshed. Names that may be familiar to Local Food Forum readers include Black Oaks Center for Sustainable Living (Pembroke Township, Illinois); Eden Place Farms (Chicago); Herban Produce (Chicago); Urban Growers Collective (Chicago); and Westside Bee Boyz (Chicago).
What's really exciting, though, is that the Index includes all 50 states plus District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam... providing us all with the opportunity to learn about the work of Black farmers across this country.
If you are a Black farmer who is not currently in the Index and would like to be, there is a Contact chat on their website homepage.
The link to access the site is below... please check it out and share.
