While Avian Flu Setback and Federal Fund Freeze Continue, Egg Sales Online Resume

Since early this year, Local Food Forum has been covering the double whammy of troubles faced by Marty and MariKate Thomas at their Kakadoodle Farm in Matteson, Illinois. First, they lost their whole flock of chickens to an avian flu outbreak. Then, without warning, the Trump administration froze federal reimbursements laid out by farmers (including the Thomases) under contracts with USDA.

Yet Kakadoodle is not just a farm... it's also an online marketplace for healthy, sustainably produced food from a variety of regional farms. And while their farm remains under avian flu quarantine for several more weeks — meaning they currently can't sell their own eggs, their signature product, from their e-commerce store — they just announced that they are back to sourcing eggs from other farmers.

Here's what they posted on LinkedIn this weekend:

🥚 EGGS ARE BACK—and better than ever!

After a tough stretch, we’re excited to be back at full speed with fresh, chemical-free eggs—thanks to two incredible farmers:

🐓 Aaron from Little Farm on the Prairie

🐓 Chris from Hebron Farms

Both have expanded their flocks to help us keep up with demand, and we couldn’t be more grateful. They’re exactly the kind of partners Kakadoodle was built to support.

Because here’s the thing:

We don’t just sell eggs. We’re building a food system our kids can grow up on.

And that starts with how we source everything.

At Kakadoodle, we only work with farmers who meet three simple—but powerful—standards:

1. Chemical-Free – No synthetic sprays, no GMO feed. Period.

2. Direct from Farmers (With Faces) – You’re buying from real people, not warehouses.

3. As Local as Possible – Fresher food, stronger communities, and fewer miles traveled.

These aren’t buzzwords. They’re how we protect your family’s health and build a decentralized food system that supports many small farms instead of a few giant ones.

You don’t have to go out of your way to make a difference.

Just eat like you care.

Kakadoodle does the hard part.
