Food Research & Action Center Presses to Expand Policy in Effect in Eight States
It should shock the conscience that more than 13 million children face food insecurity in a nation of this wealth. And there are many childrenb who have incurred or are vulnerable to diet-related diseases who could benefit from healthier school meals.
One of the most important ways we can address this issue is by increasing the quality and nutritional content of food served to school students, and by increasing access to that healthy food.
One of the boldest concepts in current circulation is called Healthy School Meals for All. Taking its lead from eight states that already have instituted free school meals for all students, advocates are promoting federal level legislation (Senate Bill 1568 and House Bill 3204) that would enable implementation of Healthy School Meals for All across the nation.
Food Research & Action Center (FRAC) is presenting a free webinar tomorrow (Tuesday, September 10) to provide details about the proposal and its benefits. According to the organization:
Healthy Schools Meals for All is gaining momentum across the country. So far, eight states have passed Healthy School Meals for All policies, while bills are pending in many other states. Join FRAC for an overview of the Healthy School Meals for All movement, including the research supporting the policy, lessons learned from implementing states, and bills introduced in Congress to expand school meals.
The webinar begins at 2 p.m. central time. Click the first button below to register, and the second button to access FRAC's online primer about Healthy Food Meals for All.
