Tuesday: Dinner to Assist Individuals With Developmental Disabilities

Writer's picture: Bob BenensonBob Benenson

Cause is Personal for Fundraiser's Organizer

If your evening on Tuesday (October 8) is open, please consider this chef-driven fundraising dinner, organized by the Doors Open Dishes non-profit, to be held at Evanston's LaTour restaurant.

The dinner will raise money to address the dental care needs of individuals in the intellectually and developmentally disabled community. This cause is very personal to Nicole Schnitzler, founder of Doors Open Dishes.

Nicole informs that she began the nonprofit "as a way of raising funds for the critical programming needs of these individuals—and to do it through a culinary lens, as inspired by my autistic brother Daniel and his love of food."

She said the event is a seated dinner featuring four dishes,"with the chefs and clients there to speak briefly on the experience of working together."

She added that the dental needs of intellectually and developmentally impaired people are often overlooked, an issue that is being addressed by the Susan Schnitzler Happy Faces Fund, an extension of Doors Open Dishes that she created in honor of Daniel’s and my late mother—a nurse and advocate for Daniel and his community.

The above graphic shows the outstanding chef lineup for the dinner. Click the link below for tickets.
