We Build This Table Together: Reclaiming Food, Land & Power
For more than two decades, the Chicago Food Justice Summit has been a shared table where ideas are exchanged, strategies are sharpened, and relationships take root. Hosted by the Chicago Food Policy Action Council (CFPAC), the 21st Annual Chicago Food Justice Summit continues this legacy by centering the truth we’ve always known… we build power together.
This year’s theme, We Build This Table Together: Reclaiming Food, Land & Power, calls us to move beyond visioning and into collective action. We gather to reclaim what has always been ours… our food systems, our land, our labor, our stories, and our right to self-determination. Grounded in legacy and propelled by resistance, this Summit creates space for organizers, growers, cultural workers, policy advocates, and community members to connect across differences and build toward a future rooted in justice, dignity, and collective care.
Together, we’ll confront the systems that extract and exclude, while uplifting community-led solutions that nourish bodies, cultures, and movements. From land stewardship to policy fights, from mutual aid to migration justice, this year’s Summit reflects the many ways food connects us to power.
What to Expect
The Summit brings together grassroots organizers, policy advocates, researchers, artists, farmers, and cultural workers shaping the future of Chicago’s food system and beyond. Organized in partnership with the Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) and the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs & Special Events (DCASE), and supported in part by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds allocated to CCDPH, this year’s Summit will feature:Â
Inspiring keynote speakers
Interactive workshops and panel discussions
A resource marketplace featuring local leaders and organizations
Space to celebrate achievements and envision the future of food justice together
Whether you’re deeply rooted in this work or just finding your place at the table, this Summit is an invitation to connect, reclaim, and build together. Let’s honor the legacies that brought us here and continue shaping the future of food justice… side by side.
Local Food Forum will provide programming information and other updates in the run-up to the event.
