In a surprise development, Green City Market — considered by many to be Chicago's premier farmers market — announced on Tuesday (August 18) that Letisha "Tish" Steele "has concluded her tenure as Executive Director."

The official statement sent out to the non-profit's email list reads as follows:

Green City Market announces that Letisha ‘Tish’ Steele has concluded her tenure as Executive Director. We are grateful to Tish for her leadership, passion and many contributions to Green City Market and the community it serves, and we wish her continued success.

From our 25th Annual Chef BBQ this September to the launch of dynamic programming across education, culinary connections, and expanding opportunities for sustainable local farmers at the new Green City Market Homestead, we are committed to deepening our impact, strengthening connections across Chicago’s local food ecosystem and creating new ways to bring people together around sustainable, locally grown food.

The Board will begin a comprehensive search for Green City Market’s next Executive Director and will share updates as appropriate.

The dedication of everyone who contributes to Green City Market is central to who we are, and we look forward to continuing this important work together.

— Green City Market Board of Directors

Tish Steele relocated to Chicago from Denver and began her Green City Market tenure in June 2025. She previously had careers as a chef and as CEO of Denver Food Rescue. There are no indications in the Market's statement about the circumstances surrounding her departure.
