McHenry County College (MCC), located in the northwest Chicago suburb of Crystal Lake, is offering an intensive non-credit course for early-stage and aspiring vegetable and fruit growers

The course (number NPG-S94, ID: 15148) will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 8:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m., starting May 18 (next Monday) and ending on July 9. The location is MCC Main Campus, Building D, and the instructor is Rich Tobiasz. The fee is $390.

Call (815) 455-8758 for more information or to register.

Here is how the college describes the program:

Learn about growing fruit and vegetable crops in northern Illinois from the planning stages through harvest. Hardy fruit crops appropriate for our area along with specific vegetable crops are discussed in detail, including cultivar selection, cultural needs, pest management, and harvesting. Organic and conventional production techniques are included.

While the course is designed as non-credits, students can enroll for three credits by calling the Registration Office at (815) 455-8588 or emailing mymcc@mchenry.edu;  provide course number HRT 135-001.  The fee, content, and instructor for registering "for credit" or "non-credit" are the same.  The registration process, however, is different.
